Shortly after the strike of 1929, the Board of Directors for the two rayon plants in Elizabethton saw the need to document proper procedures for employer/employee negotiation. Such a document was released on Janurary 1, 1930. After a couple of years the document would see its first revision which was released on December 27, 1932.
Below is the 1932 handbook in its entirety. The photos below are the sequential pages of the handbook that the CCH staff was fortunate enough to obtain. The paperback book measures 6 3/4" tall by 4" wide when closed and is completely intact and in good condition for its age.
As you read through the pages of this book, allow yourself to be transformed to an era when the plant supported more than 4000 employees and tension was evident between the employees and their employer since the nationally publicized strike of a couple of years prior.
Notice the words of Chairman S.R. Fuller, Jr. as he asks for support of the plan being submitted and promised commitment from the management to carry out the plan in letter and spirit.
We hope you enjoy the 24 page Revision No. 1 of the "Bembeg-Glanzstoff Council" guidelines for the American Bemberg Corporation and the American Glanzstoff Corporation submitted in 1932.
