The Phillippi Baptist Church of Elizabethton has been a landmark for several years. Although early years are not well documented, the church has had more than one building and several pastors over the years.. We will work to find more information on the history of the church.
We were fortunate enough to run across some video footage of the Phillippi Choir as they gave a concert in the 1980's on a hot Sunday afternoon. The old brick church that has now been replaced with a much larger and more modern facility, did not have air conditioning and was rather small.
We hope you enjoy the four songs below that showcase the Phillippi Baptist Church Community Choir. The director of the choir at the time was Gregory "Flip" Wash and the pianist was Odessa Johnson. Other area musicians participated in the event.
It was traditional in the 80's for the choir to sing an opening song while entering the sanctuary. The song "We Are Soldiers" was performed with soloist "Loretta Bowers" leading the way.
This second song called "He Keeps Blessing Me" was performed by the choir with soloist Ms. Betty McFarland featured.
The third song is "Standing on the Promises"
The final song is "I'm a Child of the King" and once again features the talented "Loretta Bowers".
